International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.

The theme for International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 is “Accelerate Action”. At the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158 to achieve full gender parity, according to the World Economic Forum. This year’s campaign emphasises the urgency and importance of accelerating efforts to eliminate systemic barriers and biases that impede women’s equality.

IWD calls on individuals, organisations, and communities around the world to act swiftly and decisively to address gender inequality, both in personal and professional spheres. It is a call to increase momentum and break down obstacles that prevent women from reaching their full potential.
