Helping Dargaville Little Theatre get to Monaco
Dargaville Little Theatre will be travelling to Monaco in August 2025, to represent New Zealand on the world stage!
This fundraising tour is your chance to see the production before it is performed on the world stage, as well as helping raise funds for the team to travel to Monaco. Here at 16th Ave Theatre we are excited to see an amateur theatre group being recognised like this, so we invited them to bring their play to Tauranga. The proceeds of the tickets go to Dargaville Little Theatre for their travel fund, and we are hosting them as our guests for this production.
Please get behind us and help get them to Monaco.
Here's the whole story from their President.
Since 2014, Dargaville Little Theatre has consistently entered the national amateur theatre festival, Theatrefest, and have been successful in reaching the National Finals several times. Our members received a few awards at Theatrefest finals for acting and playwriting, but were not successful in winning the coveted Book of Honour (Best Overall Production). Then in 2022, eight local women, brought together by team member Yasmin, developed a musical play to enter Theatrefest. Written by Deborah Steele and composed by Julianne Parkinson, "Out of Mind" was inspired by Director Eryn's grandma who worked for a time at Tokanui Mental Hospital. The play did win the prestigious Book of Honour at the National TheatreFest competition in Wellington that year, as well as a slew of accolades, a remarkable milestone for a small town theatre.
On the encouragement of the Theatrefest organisers, “Out of Mind” was then submitted for selection to the Mondial du Théâtre Committee in Monaco in 2024. After months of pensive waiting, the news arrived that the play had been selected for performance at the prestigious amateur theatre event.
This fundraising tour is your chance to see the production before it is performed on the world stage, as well as helping raise funds for the team to travel to Monaco. We are delighted to have been invited to perform in Tauranga and extend a massive thank you to 16th Ave Theatre for hosting us.
