8 - 23 May 2026: The Thrill of Love
Directed by Geraldine Broderick
Geraldine is no stranger to compelling British dramas, having previously directed The Revlon Girl at 16th Ave Theatre. Her experience and artistic vision have generated significant anticipation for her upcoming interpretation of The Thrill of Love, a gripping drama based on the true story of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in Britain in 1955.
Geraldine’s directorial prowess was clearly demonstrated in her work on The Revlon Girl, and her familiarity with emotionally charged narratives makes her an ideal choice to bring The Thrill of Love to life on our stage.
The Thrill of Love explores Ruth Ellis’s tumultuous existence as a nightclub hostess in 1950s London. Central to the story is her passionate yet destructive relationship with racing driver David Blakely, culminating in the tragic events that led to murder. The play combines noir-inspired storytelling with emotional depth, delving into themes of love, obsession, and the harsh realities faced by women in a male-dominated world.
Audiences can expect to be immersed in a world where glamour and desperation exist side by side. The narrative intricately unravels the complexities of Ruth’s choices and the societal pressures that influenced her fate. Geraldine’s keen eye for character-driven storytelling and her ability to elicit layered performances promise an emotionally powerful and thought-provoking production. Viewers will be invited to ponder issues of justice, empathy, and the true cost of love.
